Awesome Since July 1955 67th Birthday Vintage Retro T Shirt
We typically go to a Christmas Eve candlelight service in the Awesome Since July 1955 67th Birthday Vintage Retro T Shirt. Those are crowded but not nearly as packed as the evening services. Then we meet at my sister’s house along with her family, my other sisters and their families, and Mom. Like good Texans we feast on the traditional tamales, accompanied with fresh guacamole, cheese dip, and cold beer. Our kids run around and catch up with their cousins. After dinner it’s Mom’s birthday party! She was born on Christmas Eve. For the last 25 years or so my wife has baked the birthday cake, always with a different recipe. Mom opens her birthday cards and gifts while we enjoy the yummy cake. After that it’s time for the cousins’ gifts. When our children were little all of the adults gave presents to all of the kids. Now that our children are grown they exchange gifts with each other. Sometimes they’re pretty funny. When my nephew completed law school he received an official looking barrister’s wig. He was thrilled.

I adore the world of Christmas traditions, which vary from Awesome Since July 1955 67th Birthday Vintage Retro T Shirt to country … I also enjoy the ancient pre-Christian traditions behind most Christmas customs. Diwali is a lovely tradition that coincides with autumn and shares a lot of imagery (IMO) with Hanukkah, the tradition of my own ancestors. (We made a bigger deal of Christmas at home.) I am all for the human impulse to fill the winter months with light and celebration. I’ve always considered them “the holidays,” and I have no personal desire to put Christ in Christmas. I also don’t want my government to do so. I’ll gladly wish you “Merry Christmas” if I know it’s your tradition. But it’s not mine. That’s not persecution, and it’s only traditionalism if it’s your tradition. Christmas presents have nothing to do with Christianity. Neither do almost all of the Christmas customs of hanging holly and mistletoe, decorating trees, drinking egg nog, Santa Claus, jingling sleigh bells. etc. In the religiously strict Massachusetts Bay Colony celebrating Christmas was illegal, as their leaders recognized that almost all of the festivities were continuations of pagan practices. Merchandisers have gotten rich by popularizing the giving of gifts at Christmas and they spend heavily every year to promote this secular mania. So feel free to give Christmas presents to any of your friends and relations regardless of race, religion age or sexual orientation.

I worked with an Iranian architect (Muslim, I guess) who thought the Awesome Since July 1955 67th Birthday Vintage Retro T Shirt. He celebrated Christmas and Donald Duck with his family and all things American without turmoil. Oh, we’d get into arguments about who the real terrorists are, and stuff like that, but he did the American thing — He assimilated and was smart enough to separate the civic celebration from the easy-to-ignore religious overtones. He went all-in for the American celebrations without in the slightest being offended by the religiosity that historically festoons these things Christ and Christmas are quite disconnected in the way our civil society celebrates it. I’ve been to Russia for three New Year’s. It looks exactly the same, decorate trees, gifts, something like Santa and his elf, joy, etc. It’s even better there. More fun. It’s not laden with religious significance and is somewhat less “commercial.” I celebrate it because I always have, and it’s a celebration that brings us together as a society. It’s not really about “Christ.” It’s about the coming of longer days and the regeneration of the Earth. That’s about Christ if you want it to be, or it’s just happiness that the light is coming back.

A Awesome Since July 1955 67th Birthday Vintage Retro T Shirt is Dies Solis Invicti Nati which was on 25 December and was introduced by Aurelian in 274 AD — apparently about 20 years or more after at least some Christians began celebrating Christmas on 25 December. Some deny the possibility of Christ’s birth in December, arguing that lambs couldn’t have been safely left outdoors at that time. There is actually no mention of lambs in the Gospel account of the shepherds (Luke 2). It merely says, “And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night.” Adult sheep would be in a different situation. As overnight temperatures in Bethlehem can get as low as 7 or 8 deg C in late December, it would be definitely unpleasant in a field at that time of year, though not impossible. In fact, though, the 25 December date for the mass celebrating Christ’s birth was derived by calculations based on a strange theory that the dates of Jesus’ death and conception would have coincided, and, as others have pointed out, it is rather unlikely that Jesus was actually born on that day.
