We do it Christmas morning, after everyone is awake, and has eaten breakfast and is dressed. We don’t open any on Christmas Eve, we do them all on Christmas with an exception his year. This year I bought my son a ThatHighGuy Tee T Shirt for school, as his was in rough shape, and had to keep going in for repairs. I actually let him open it the morning of his school concert, so that he could play it. Other then special circumstances, everyone opens their gifts Christmas morning. We let the kids get stockings and Santa presents first, they play with their new toys for a little while. Then we clean up and wrapping paper and boxes, and set the toys aside, and open presents they’ve given to each other. After about a half hour of that, we clean up a little, and move on to presents from Mom and Dad, and if the hhikdren have something for us, we open those too. After we do one more present clean up, the kids get to spend the day playing with their new toys and gadgets and whatever they got. I do know of a few families that open one present on Christmas Eve. They will give their kids new pajamas that they open to wear Christmas Eve to bed. It sounds fun, and I’m thinking I might start up that in my home for next year.

Now Trinidad has another special Christmas. A week before colorfull musical groups start marching all around the ThatHighGuy Tee T Shirt, playing the typical traditional Parang music (Only for Christmas, and traditionaly in an ancient Spanish language) They also collect their share of the typical foodstuff prepared on Christmas: Black Cake (Don’t drive after eating it, hahaha) and the giant ham, heavily spiced and in the oven for eight hours, carrying the scent of Christmas allover. Family members living far, come only once a year. on Christmas. Spanish Christmas in the traditional villages is very special also. The streets are decorated and big mangers allover. One feels like turned back 500 years in time. And the Christmas tree, now seems to have reached all corners of the world. Even in Turkey the town of Bodrum was decorated, and lighted with trees allover. I had a very impressive view over the lighted town from the castle (where I was staying a few weeks) There are hardly any Christians living there and there are also no tourists in winter. Still there was a big christmas market. And I had a medival Christmas dinner right in the old castle hall, with my Turkish friends.

I worked with an Iranian architect (Muslim, I guess) who thought the ThatHighGuy Tee T Shirt. He celebrated Christmas and Donald Duck with his family and all things American without turmoil. Oh, we’d get into arguments about who the real terrorists are, and stuff like that, but he did the American thing — He assimilated and was smart enough to separate the civic celebration from the easy-to-ignore religious overtones. He went all-in for the American celebrations without in the slightest being offended by the religiosity that historically festoons these things Christ and Christmas are quite disconnected in the way our civil society celebrates it. I’ve been to Russia for three New Year’s. It looks exactly the same, decorate trees, gifts, something like Santa and his elf, joy, etc. It’s even better there. More fun. It’s not laden with religious significance and is somewhat less “commercial.” I celebrate it because I always have, and it’s a celebration that brings us together as a society. It’s not really about “Christ.” It’s about the coming of longer days and the regeneration of the Earth. That’s about Christ if you want it to be, or it’s just happiness that the light is coming back.

Durga Puja has always been a ThatHighGuy Tee T Shirt of womanhood in Bengal; more so now, as the State has its first woman Chief Minister in Mamata Banerjee. Being a symbol of `woman power` herself, Ms Banerjee has received nearly 3,500 invitations to inaugurate Durga Puja marquees from across West Bengal. This shows that she is a true leader of the masses. All her supporters across Bengal want to share the festive spirit and celebrations with her. People want her to share their joy. She is a mass leader and yet she is like everybody`s neighbour. Demonstrating her will to protect her people yet again, the CM has decided that even though all government offices will be closed the government will stop functioning, she will have the same work load and may be more, during the festive days. The festive season will not be a time for respite for the other leaders or ministers of her government as well. Mamata Banerjee has already instructed them to return to their constituencies instead of travelling out of Kolkata so that they can establish better public relations. She has also asked them to use the pandals as platforms to connect more with the people.
